Pack one room at a time, labeling each box with the room, contents,
and box number.
Have plenty of old newspapers on hand for wrapping breakable
items or for using as filler in boxes.
Keep in mind the weight per
box - 50 pounds or less is best.
Place heavy items toward the bottom of a box or in a separate
smaller box.
Pack any important papers (e.g., passports, legal files,
medical records, and insurance forms) in a safe and accessible
place.
Pack a separate box or bag with some essential daily
items (such as toiletries, medicine, a change of clothes,
your
child's favorite
toys, snacks, and drinks) for quick and easy access.
Contact the IRS (800-829-1040 or irs.gov)
for a change-of-address form.
Visit your local post office (or
online) for a mover's guide and Address Change Notification
Cards.
Cancel all of your utilities and other services
at your old address, and sign up for new utilities
and
services
at your
new address.
Close or transfer your bank accounts.
Contact your new local Chamber of Commerce for
a packet of useful community information.

IIf you move to a new state, be sure to contact
the Department of Motor Vehicles to register
your car
and exchange your
driver's license.

Save your moving receipts in case you can
deduct your moving expenses when determining
your
federal adjusted
gross income.
